Moroccan international midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has said he is stepping back from being considered for the team while head coach Mohamed Ouahbi is, in charge. Amrabat Pauses
Amrabat clarified that while he is refusing to play under the current managerial setup, he has not retired from international football and remains committed to representing the Atlas Lions in the future under different circumstances.
“This has been a very difficult decision, but I do not feel able to continue representing the national team under the current head coach,” Amrabat stated in a public message. “I am therefore making myself unavailable for selection while he remains in charge. Out of respect for the national team, I prefer to keep the specific reasons behind this decision private.”
The tension follows a drop in Amrabats playing time during recent international fixtures. The drop is worsened by shifts and the rise of younger players in central midfield such as Ayyoub Bouaddi, from Manchester City.
