Local administrative authorities in Cairo’s southern district of Dar El-Salam have announced a sweeping ban on the movement of three-wheeled tuk-tuks across five major roads and transport corridors.
The targeted restriction prohibits tuk-tuks from operating on the Nile Corniche, the slow lane network, the Ring Road, the Egypt-Helwan Agricultural Road, and Fayoum Road. Municipal officers confirmed that field awareness campaigns were conducted to notify drivers prior to full enforcement and vehicle impoundments.
Under the strictly enforced regulations, any tuk-tuk caught navigating restricted thoroughfares or driving against traffic flow will be immediately confiscated. Authorities also confirmed severe legal penalties for drivers under the age of 18, alongside strict enforcement of dynamic speed limits and illegal parking fines along median strips.
The enforcement push aligns with broader Cairo Governorate directives aimed at easing urban congestion, curbing reckless traffic violations, and restricting tuk-tuks to narrow residential side streets while promoting licensed, civilized transport alternatives across the capital.
