An IndiGo Airbus A320neo carrying 110 people made a safe landing at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow after being struck by lightning at an altitude of approximately 17,000 feet.
Flight 6E925, en route from Patna to Lucknow, encountered severe adverse weather and atmospheric turbulence during its approach. A lightning strike hit the front section of the aircraft, causing significant structural impact and punching in the nose radome—the composite cone that houses and protects the onboard weather radar.
Despite the damage at high altitude, the flight crew maintained control and landed safely at 4:04 PM local time, touching down eight minutes ahead of schedule. All 104 passengers and six crew members disembarked without injuries.
The full extent of the damage was identified after the aircraft taxied to its parking bay. The plane has been grounded in Lucknow for technical inspections, maintenance, and mandatory clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). IndiGo arranged a replacement aircraft to transport onward passengers to their final destination later that evening
